The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library’s acquisition of Air Force One, the plane used by President Reagan in his successful efforts to bring about the end of the arms race and the Cold War, presented a unique challenge to KDI. A series of galleries were designed to present a vivid picture of the world during President Reagan’s two terms, the atomic threat that hung over it, and the summit meetings held between President Reagan and Soviet premier Mikhail Gorbachev. A tour through Air Force One itself is the dramatic culmination of the tour, followed by exhibits depicting the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of communism in Soviet Russia.
